Attention Steamboat Dog Parents!!

Dogma Canine Training will be switching over to virtual sessions due to the recent stay at home order. Virtual sessions are just as beneficial as individual sessions and even come with some added bonus material! If you are interested in continuing your training from the comforts of your own home (we won’t judge you if you want to wear sweats and have a beer) then visit our website, link in bio, for more information on virtual sessions.

This is a snippet from today’s session with Adam and Kylo! Kylo is an amazing puppy who is working on some mild separation/barrier anxiety. Adam and I talked about the little steps to making Kylo more comfortable on his own in a kennel and out of a kennel.

We also practiced eye contact so that Adam and Kylo have a tool to help Kylo when he gets nervous or over stimulated around other dogs. Kylo is still learning to be social with other dogs, so Adam is practicing having Kylo watch dogs from a distance and allowing Kylo to choose when to say hi or not. The eye contact skill will help Adam redirect Kylo if he becomes to excited or nervous or if they happen to accidentally be too close to another dog. This will help Kylo start to look to his dad more when he’s in a uncertain state of mind. GREAT NEWS...Kylo offered to check in with Adam on his own when they saw other dogs at the park today!!! This is big for little Kylo. Before they started working on eye contact, check ins and BAT (Behavioral Adjustment Training), Kylo would fixate on the dogs until they were out of site unless, he was far enough away. We’re adding tools to Adam & Kylo’s tool box, so they can have as much success when meeting/seeing new dogs around the neighborhood.
